October 31, 1612 [at Collier Bay]
The 31th we rowed unto ane harbour which now is called Alhallowes, which hath adjoining unto yt very high land from whence was seene a great bay which ran into the land North. It was to the nearest place about 3 leagues [nine miles] over land S.W. & some parte of it did lie N.W.. This must needs be the bay of Placentia.
