November 7, 1612 [at Frenchman's Island]

The 7th day we spent in washing & in beginning a house to shelter us when we should come thither hereafter upon a small Island of about five acres of ground which is Joined to the main with a small beach. For any bartering with the savages there can not be a fitter place.
